Vertex, a UK-based business process outsourcing solutions provider, has outlined plans for a major expansion in India, which will take the company headcount up to over 12,000 from about 5,000 now over the next 12 months.

The company plans to set up five more support centres in India.

“We now have 12 support centres in India, including the recently commissioned facility in Hyderabad and plan to add five more centres by next year same time to support the company's more than 25 existing clients, who continue to grow the ongoing engagements and also add new clients,” Mr Keshav C. Gaur, Managing Director and CEO of Vertex Customer Services India, said.

The company's clients span across telecom, banking, financial services and insurance, energy and other segments. The company has centres in the US and Canada, too.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday along with Mr Gurpal Singh, Chief Operating Officer, and Mr Sharad Sharma, Human Resources Director in India, Mr Gaur said that the €410-million revenue company sees Indian operations growing significantly during the year.

Mr Gaur said that the Indian BPO sector is in for consolidation with regional players either merging with others or getting acquired.

“Our business visibility is clear as the engagement with existing companies is expected to get bigger. Each new centre will see additional investment of about Rs 3-4 crore each. We are also planning to add some of the services we provide in sectors such as energy in India. All of the India operations are aimed at providing local BPO services, including some aspects of knowledge process outsourcing,” he said.

“The company has created multi-lingual teams that suit the requirements across different States.

“This is helping us serve more than 10 major customers in India who require multi-lingual support services. We expect to play a role in the UID project (the national unique identity scheme),” he said.
