Uninor, which has been trying out new distribution channels, riding piggy-back on auto drivers and newspaper vendors among others, has opened 17 mini stores in multi-brand outlets.

These are exclusive Uninor mini-shops, branded Mee Stores, and are located within traditional multi-brand telecom outlets. Each of these stores is manned by a company executive who facilitates faster activiiation of new Uninor connections.

The multi-brand stores sell and serve products of other telcos such as Reliance and Tata Docomo. “But our customers get special attention at the stores,” Yogesh Malik, who has taken over as Chief Executive Officer of Uninor, said.

He told presspersons here that there would be 30 such stores by June 30. Uninor has tied up with multi-brand outlets to open these mini stores.

The company, with a total subscriber base of 3.1 crore in six circles, said it might replicate this model in other circles as well.

In Andhra Pradesh, the company is planning to add 100 more network sites and 1,500 additional points of sales. It has a subscriber base of 43.62 lakh in the State, including the 57,404 subscribers it added in April.
