Infor, a US-based firm that builds business applications, is going to hire 500 engineers this year for its India operations. This will take the total number of employees at Hyderabad to 2,000.

“We are going to hire 300-400 engineers to support our services activity alone,” Ranga Pothula, Vice-President and Centre Head for Infor (India), told BusinessLine .

“Apart from this, the company is planning to hire 100 engineers each for its research and development and engagement platform,” Soma Somasundaram, Executive Vice-President (Global Product Development of Infor, has said. “We are planning to add 100 R&D engineers a year for the next few years,” he said.

The New York-based firm has about 14,000 employees globally, including 1,550 in India. “Of the 1,550 in India, about 500 work on product development and 580 working on global consulting needs,” he said.

The firm automates critical processes for industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, fashion, hospitality and retail. “We are building products and applications for our clients, keeping in view the millennials, who are stepping in. You cannot develop the products and applications the same way you built them 20 years ago,” he said.

“You don’t see a manual with an app you use. You must be able to provide them with real-time data,” Somasundaram said.

The firm hired about 100 artists, designers, special effects specialists and story tellers for its Hook & Loop design house in New York to create engaging interfaces.

It also set up a Dynamic Science Lab at Massachusetts (the US) with 15 employees with PhDs with data science background working for it.

“We are working with hospitals to optimise the inventory management.

“Hospitals lag behind the manufacturing sector in using technology-based inventory,” he said.
