The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday searched the offices and residences of key officials of IRB Infrastructure Development, in connection with an allegedly forged land deal.
“CBI is conducting searches at 21 locations in Mumbai and Pune in the offices/ residential premises of Virendra Mhaiskar, Managing Director of IRB Infra, and 16 others,” a senior official of the investigating agency said.
Searches are also being conducted at official and residential premises of Deepak Dattatray Gadgil, Jyoti Kulkarni, Navin Rai, Siraj Bagwan, Anil Vadgama, Dattatray Nathu Mandekar, Nawaj Khan, Nasir Mustaq Khan, Ashwini Kshirsagar, Sitabai Tawre, Laxmibai Warghade, Ramchandra Balghude, Bapudeo Parkhi, Raghunath Deo Parkhi, Babandeo Parkhi and Chabbudeo Parkhi, the official added.
Case registered The official said CBI has registered a case on the directions of the Bombay High Court against Deepak Dattatray Gadgil, who is the authorised signatory of IRB’s subsidiary, Aryan Infrastructures and 12 others.
According to media reports, Satish Shetty, a right to information activist from Talegaon in Pune, had registered a complaint with the Lonavala police against IRB Infrastructure Chairman Mhaiskar and others, alleging cornering government land.
In 2009, Shetty had informed the Pune police that Mhaiskar had threatened him and his life was in danger. Shetty was murdered in 2010, and Mhasikar is facing a separate probe for that. Four years after Shetty’s murder, the CBI submitted a closure report in the case in August 2014. Just days before the closure report, the Bombay High Court had allowed the CBI to reinvestigate Shetty’s complaint of alleged land grab against Mhaiskar.
