Turmeric prices continued to rule firm as demand from North India kept flowing.
“After two months, Erode exporters are receiving orders from North India.
Buyers in the four markets, after inspecting the lots, quoted an increased price at Rs 7,069 for the best quality hybrid crop and quoted the maximum price of Rs 6,176 for the finger variety,” said R. K.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Because of the increased price for the past couple of days, farmers are bringing more stocks.
On Wednesday, over 6,000 bags arrived, and 65 per cent of them was sold.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger variety was sold at Rs 4,226-5,816 a quintal; the root variety at Rs 3,809-5,156.
Salem hybrid crop: The finger variety fetched Rs 4,867-7,069; the root variety Rs 4,716-5,260.
Out of a total arrival of 1,647 bags, 20 per cent stocks were sold.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety was sold at Rs 4,336-5,448, the root variety Rs 4,119-5,289 a quintal.
Of 1,041 bags arrived, 759 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at Rs 4,675-5,989, the root variety Rs 4,296-5,289. All the 1,112 bags arrived were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at Rs 5,240-6,176, the root variety Rs 3,689-5,500. All the 309 bags were sold.
