Weak demand from gram flour mills dragged down chana in local mandis by Rs 100 a quintal on Tuesday. In the spot market, kanta chana slipped to Rs 4,825-4,250 a quintal (Rs 4,950-4,975)desi chana declined to Rs 4,650-4,675 a quintal. Kanta chana is down Rs 150 compared with last week.

With chana futures hitting the lower circuit on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange and decline in demand from gram flour millers, kanta chana on Monday had slipped to Rs 4,950 a quintal. The recent spate of rains in chana-growing States has also reduced demand for pulses.

Given the likely import of dollar chana , chana will remain bearish in the near future. However, some traders do not see any major fall in kanta chana on improved demand ahead of the Ganesh

Chaturthi festival next month.

Poor demand for chana also pulled down its dal by Rs 25, with average dal being quoted at Rs 5,950-5,975, medium dal at Rs 6,075-6,100 and bold dal at Rs 6,250-6,275 a quintal. Compared with last week, chana dal is down about Rs 100.

However, Assocham sees chana prices reaching a new high during Diwali as import of lentils becomes expensive and supplies tighten.

Dollar chana continued to rule sluggish on poor buying support both in the domestic and export markets. Dollar chana in the container in the past one week has declined by Rs 250 a quintal on weak export demand with prices of dollar chana (42/44 count) being quoted at Rs 8,250 a quintal, 44/46 count at Rs 8,100, 46/48 count at Rs 8,000 and 58/60 count at Rs 7,150 a quintal. In the local mandis, dollar chana declined to Rs 7,000-7,500 a quintal. Five hundred quintals of dollar chana arrived.
