Rupee skids 48 paise

Our Bureau Updated - December 07, 2021 at 01:37 AM.

The rupee fell 48 paise to a near four-week low of 62.17 to the dollar, snapping two-day gains due to heavy capital outflows and fresh dollar demand from banks and importers. The rupee had closed at 61.69 against the US currency on Friday. The Indian currency opened lower at 61.99 due to weaker opening in the domestic equity markets.

The currency had last ended at 62.18 on January 14. Persistent fall in equity markets and a strong dollar in overseas markets also impacted the rupee sentiment here, a dealer said.
