The rupee was trading weak at 67.52 in the evening session due to sustained demand for the American currency from importers amid foreign fund outflows.

Besides, a weak domestic equity market weighed on the domestic unit, dealers said. However, dollar’s weakness against major world currencies in the global market limited the rupee’s fall.

The rupee depreciated by 11 paise to 67.42 against the US dollar in early trade against the previous close of 67.31 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today.

It hovered in a range of 67.54 and 67.36 before quoting at 67.52, down 21 paise at 4.25 pm local time.

The domestic unit had yesterday ended lower by 23 paise to close at an over two-week low of 67.31 on heavy bouts of dollar demand amid uncertainty in the wake of RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan’s decision against pursuing a second stint.

Meanwhile, the 30-share BSE index Sensex ended down 54.14 points or 0.2 per cent at 26,812.78.
