Gas stocks top gainers in BSE; expected to benefit from focus on pollution

Indian gas stocks were top gainers in the BSE on Wednesday. The gas shares are seen as key anti-pollution plays.

GAIL jumped 5 per cent, Indraprastha Gas was up 3.4 per cent, Gujarat Gas rose 5.5 per cent and Petronet LNG advanced 1.9 per cent.

GAIL and IGL were among the top gainers in BSE 'A' group stocks.

The shares are seen as key beneficiaries of the Government and the judiciary's focus on pollution.

The Supreme Court is to decide on Wednesday whether to ban registering diesel SUVs and luxury cars with an engine capacity of over 2000 CC in Delhi to curb air pollution.

The temporary Delhi diesel vehicle ban has left automakers in the dark, and investors are jittery.

M&M has slumped ahead of the court decision on banning diesel cars in Delhi.
