Sensex ends flat; Healthcare, capital goods stocks climb

SENSEX

The Nifty and the Sensex closed flat on Wednesday.

The Nifty closed at 5,241, up 12 points while the Sensex closed at 17,257, up 21 points.

Marketmen said that the trading was dull as the RBI maintained status quo on its key lending rates in its monetary policy review on Tuesday.

“Markets have been very choosy and out performance may continue in selective sectors such as pharma, FMCG and media,” said Mr. Rikesh Vinod Parikh, Vice-President -Equities, Motilal Oswal Securities Ltd.

On the NSE, mid-cap and small-cap indices outperformed the Nifty and rose in excess of one per cent.

Healthcare and Capital Goods were the largest gainers on the BSE.

Volatility was up 2.75 per cent and the volatility index, India Vix, closed at 16.45.
