Sensex loses 111 points in listless trade

Indian benchmark indices shed just in excess of 0.6 per cent on Wednesday.

The Nifty closed at 5,322, down 36 points from its previous close of 5,358.The Sensex shed 111 points to close at 17,486.

“The Nifty and the Sensex mirrored the global sentiment and were lacklustre through out the day,” said a dealer from an Indian brokerage. “The European markets also opened weak today.”

India Vix, the volatility index was up 3 per cent and closed at 20.63.

BHEL, Ranbaxy, Dr Reddy, Cairn and IDFC were the top Nifty gainers while Jindal Steel, GAIL, JP Associates,Bharti Airtel and R-Infra were the top losers.
