In restricted trading, the rupee moved up by another 5 paise to Rs 44.68 against the US dollar in early trade today on fresh selling of the American currency by banks and exporters in spite of dollar firmness in the overseas markets.

The rupee resumed slightly lower at Rs 44.74/75 per dollar as against yesterday’s close of Rs 44.73/74 per dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange.

However, it recovered immediately to Rs 44.68 per dollar before quoting at Rs 44.70/71 per dollar at 10.30 a.m.

The domestic currency moved in a range between 44.68 and 44.75 per dollar in morning deals.

The dollar edged up against most major counterparts in the Tokyo market, getting a lift against the euro on concerns about Greece’s sovereign debt woes.
