Centre sanctions₹1,681 cr for new houses in 5 States

Approval granted on Thursday was for the construction of 44, 692 houses under the Beneficiary Led Construction component of PMAY

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved the construction of 1,12,083 more affordable houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and sanctioned ₹1,681 crore for it.

The decision was taken in the 28th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee on Wednesday, an official release said.

Beneficiary States

Madhya Pradesh has been sanctioned 34,680 affordable houses in 25 cities and towns at an investment of ₹3,080 crore with Central assistance of ₹520 crore. Haryana will get 24,221 houses in 28 cities at an investment of ₹1,721 crore and Central assistance of ₹363 crore.

Maharashtra has been sanctioned 11,523 houses, Jharkhand (28,477), Kerala (9,836), and Mizoram 3,270 affordable houses.

Approval granted on Thursday was for the construction of 44, 692 houses under the Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) component of PMAY (Urban) enhancement of 1,857 houses in Haryana under BLC and building 28,477 new houses in Jharkhand, 13,946 in Haryana, 6,392 in Maharashtra under Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) component. Under BLC component, another 16,104 new houses will be built in Madhya Pradesh, 9,836 new houses in Kerala, 5,131 in Maharashtra, and 3,270 in Mizoram. BLC component helps beneficiaries build houses on the land owned by them.

With the new proposals, cumulative houses under PMAY (U) will become 30,52,828.

After subsuming projects of Rajiv Awas Yojana ( RAY) scheme, the total number of houses being funded under PMAY(Urban) would be 31,94,676 houses.
