7th pay panel: Defence employees feel ‘cheated’, says AIDEF

The All-India Defence Employees’ Federation has accused the BJP-led NDA government of “cheating” Central government employees and pensioners.

Terming the “bonanza” for Central Government employees as “false propaganda”, it questioned why the Empowered Committee had “wasted” over four months if the Centre had already decided not to accept any modifications recommended by various federations.

“We fail to understand why the empowered committee chaired by the Cabinet Secretary was constituted and why they held a series of meetings with stakeholders, including the NJCA (National Joint Council for Action),’” said a release by C Srikumar, General Secretary of AIDEF.

AIDEF said four lakh defence civilian employees will join the strike by 33 lakh Central Government employees on July 11, and accused the government of not having the “minimum courtesy” of even holding a meeting of the federations that have given a strike notice by “arbitrarily” announcing its decision to accept the Seventh Pay Commission report without modifications.

The organisation said defence employees were particularly “upset, angry and dissatisfied” with non-acceptance of their demand for minimum pay from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000, not recommending five promotions in service career, not increasing fitment benefit, and not withdrawing the National Pension System.
