Indo-US Global Health Summit (GHS) 2013 will be held at Kochi from January 1 to 3 next. Overseas India conclave of Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) is organising the event in collaboration with Government of India.

The summit aims to improve accessibility, affordability and quality of world-class healthcare by focusing on prevention, diagnosis and treatment options.

Priority areas

High-priority health issues of Kerala, including cancers, diseases of the heart, mental health and mother and child health, will take centre-stage at the event.

Speaking to newspersons here, R. Narendra Kumar, president, AAPI, said India’s status as emerging medical tourism hub calls for additional investments in health infrastructure.

“Through GHS 2013, we wish to explore possibilities of greater ties between physicians and healthcare providers based in India and their contemporaries elsewhere in the world,” Kumar, an alumnus of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, said.

CEO FORUM

More than 1,000 delegates from various parts of the globe are expected to attend the three-day summit. It will feature plenary sessions, interactive roundtables, clinical practice workshops, and meet-the-expert sessions.

Jeremy Lazarus, president, American Medical Association; Chittaranjan Ranawat, clinical professor of orthopaedic surgery at Cornell; Prathap C. Reddy, chairman, Apollo Group of Hospitals, will address various sessions.

Another highlight is a scientific poster session that will facilitate dissemination and exchange of best practices.
