The State government has launched a jobs portal on the web for aspirants looking out for opportunities within the country and abroad.

Shibu Baby John, Minister for Labour and Rehabilitation, said Overseas Development and Employment Promotion Consultants (Odepc), an official agency, is piloting the portal on behalf of the department of labour and rehabilitation.

‘FIRST PORTAL’

The Minister claimed that this was the first time that a state government has set up a jobs Web portal. Aspirants may use the portal to access jobs advertised by leading institutions in both the public and private sectors and file applications.

Currently, Odepc is the official state government agency responsible for carrying out recruitments for situations abroad.

The new job portal would mark Odepc’s entry into the domestic employment sector. Currently, similar portals exist only in the private sector. The new portal would also facilitate online registration of fresh job aspirants for overseas jobs.

IT JOBS

The new portal, www.odepc.kerala.gov.in, will kick off activity by recruiting software engineers for the domestic IT sector. The registration fees would be Rs 100 to start with.

Alongside, Odepc will enter into agreement with leading job providers in other sectors, discussions for which are already on. Prospective recruiters may approach Odepc, which may enrol them based on their track record and credibility, the minister said.

Job aspirants can post their bio-data/resume on the portal, and create user ids to update information periodically and even block the same for a fixed period.

After detailed check and analysis, the bio-data would be handed over to the recruiting company.

MAIL ALERT

This would be communicated to the aspirant through e-mail. A mail alert system too has been set up for this purpose. Odepc is open to providing other services based on the needs of the recruiting companies, the Minister said.

In future, it may also elect to source from those listed on the employment exchanges as well. Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron) designed the job portal on behalf of Odepc.
