One of the 13 workmen, who were critically injured in an accident at Adani Power Ltd’s Mundra power plant on Wednesday, succumbed to injuries here on Thursday.

A total of 21 workmen were injured in the accident. Of them, eight persons with “nominal injuries” were provided first-aid at Mundra itself while 13 others were shifted to a private hospital in Ahmedabad for treatment.

An Adani Power spokesman said the next of kin of the deceased, Bhagwan Goga Chaudhary, would be provided compensation as per the company rules. “It is under process.”

The condition of the 12 other workmen hospitalised here with various levels of injuries was “stable.”

These workmen at the 4,600 MW thermal power plant at Mundra in Kutch district had sustained burns when hot water got splashed from the vent of a flash tank during start-up of a unit after a two-day shut-down. “During the start-up, some steam is normally allowed to vent,” the company said, adding the unit was shut down after the accident.

The company has constituted a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team of experts to investigate the incident and submit report within 10 days.
