The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has set up a delegation of senior officials to help revive industry in Chennai, hit by the devastating rains and floods.

“The delegation is headed by an Additional Secretary in the department and will also include industry representatives,” a DIPP official told BusinessLine.

The delegation will first assess the loss suffered by industry in Chennai and then devise ways of getting them back on their feet, the official added.

“The DIPP's high-level delegation will device a support mechanism for speedy and quick revival of TN industries affected by the Chennai floods,” an official tweet from DIPP said.

According to industry body Assocham, the financial loss due to the rains and flooding in Tamil Nadu may exceed Rs 15,000 crore. A large number of sectors including automobiles, IT, textiles, tourism, and engineering goods, have taken a massive hit due to the torrential rains.
