TalentSprint, the IT skill development firm, is all set to expand its activity by launching the third vertical for training teachers.

It submitted a proposal to National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for financial assistance of ₹10 crore to begin the courses.

Initially, the firm would focus on training teachers for CBSE stream.

The firm has been offering bridge courses for engineering graduates and for those who seek jobs in banking, financial services and insurance industry.

“There is a huge demand for quality teachers in the country. Like in other sectors, you see a dearth of quality in output of teacher-training colleges. We have decided to address this challenge in the education sector,” Santanu Paul, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TalentSprint, told BusinessLine here. An NSDC study on the education sector has projected a requirement of 58 lakh teachers and trainers in the country for School and Higher Education by 2022. The report prepared by ICRA Management Consulting Services Ltd felt that the country would require training 4.15 lakh teachers and trainers annually to meet the growing demand.

The current capacity of teacher training institutes is about 1.60 lakh only, leaving a huge gap between the project demand and supply.

“We have so far trained 50,000 graduates and college students in various bridge courses and on-campus skill development courses so far in IT and BFSI. We have launched online courses too to reach out to much larger audience,” he said.

“We have submitted a proposal to NSDC to fund our expansion plan. In the first phase, we plan train 1,000 teachers and make them ready for the CBSE jobs. We have already tie-ups with some schools in top cities for absorption of the candidates,” he said.
