The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Hubli has floated ‘TiE Young Entrepreneurs’ (TYE) to encourage school students to become entrepreneurs.

“The Hubli chapter is introducing TYE as part of TiE Global's International Youth programme in north Karnataka and is aimed at younger generation of entrepreneurs,” said Naveen Jha, president of TiE Hubli Chapter and CEO of Deshpande Foundation.

“TYE will focus on teaching entrepreneurship to young people and help them discover the rewards and challenges of becoming an entrepreneur. It will also help in accessing seed capital and infrastructure to convert their dreams into profitable ventures,” he added.

The programme is designed for students studying in grade 9 to 12 (high school upto pre-university) and gives them a platform to experiment with their ideas locally.

“The exercise is also to create and sustain a healthy number of entrepreneurs, start-ups to be based out of north Karnataka,” said Mahesh V K, programme manager, TiE Hubli.

“The programme helps us to sow the seeds of entrepreneurship at early stages and also help groom them as job creators and not job seekers. It also inculcates the spirit of wealth creation, employment generation and giving back to society,” he added.

As part of the initiative, a dedicated classroom session, mentoring and business plan competition is planned.

The nine-month long programme (September to May), includes class room instruction, mentoring support for business plan development and culminates with a business plan competition.

Mahesh, said TYE programme is expected to run in four phases: Phase I: Teaching Sessions (Sep –Dec), Phase II: Business Plan Development (Jan-April), Phase III: Local Business Plan Competition (May) and Phase IV: TiE Global Business Plan Competition (June).

At later stage, the programme can create alumni club of all past TYE participants as resource pool for future leaders and entrepreneurs, he added.
