Manipal varsity to plant 20,000 saplings

Manipal University will plant around 20,000 saplings in its campus and around in Manipal, according to a press release here.

The university observed the World Environment Day recently by planting around 40 medicinal, fruit and flower-bearing saplings in its campus.

Quoting the Pro-Chancellor of the university, H.S. Ballal, a press release said here that conservation of water, rainwater harvesting, use of solar energy to heat water and recycling of wastes to make fertiliser, are some of the ways adopted by the university to turn the barren hilltop of Manipal into a green campus.

In his address, he created awareness among students on the significance of Environment Day.

Students drawn from the Academy of General Education, Manipal, Dr TMA Pai Foundation, Manipal, and the university campuses from Manipal and Mangalore, took part in the programme to plant saplings on the occasion.
