Four workers killed in Chhattisgarh cement plant mishap

Four workers were trapped under the debris of a huge container carrying ash which collapsed at the plant of Ambuja Cement at Rawan village in Balodabazar district on Thursday, Superintendent of Police, A.M Jurri, said.

“One other worker was missing and could be under the debris,” he added.

The incident took place when workers were carrying out maintenance operation in the mixing unit of the plant and a huge container, carrying dust, came down crashing after a rail supporting it broke down, he said.

“The bodies of the four workers have been taken out while a search was on for the missing worker,” he added.

A case has been registered against Ambuja Cement management in this connection and investigation has begun into it, the SP said.

The labour department has ordered to close down the factory operation till the investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, a Government official said Chief Minister Raman Singh has directed the factory management to provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to kin of each of the victims and a job to one member of their families.

The Chief Minister also directed the concerned department to routinely conduct inspection in the factories to check labour safety measures, the official added.
