The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa, has renewed her demand for full allocation of power to be generated from the first unit of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant to Tamil Nadu.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, she reminded the Prime Minister of her previous letters (dated March 31, 2012 and April 25, 2012) wherein she had sought the Centre’s assistance in allocation of the entire power of 1,000 MW capacity to the State.
Dismay
“To my dismay, no response has so far been received from you. I am given to understand that nuclear fuel loading in the first unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant is to happen within the next few days,” said the Chief Minister in the letter, the text of which was also disseminated to the media. “May I take this opportunity to remind you of the earlier request and expect a quick response? I am sure you will appreciate my State’s justified demand in this matter and convey a positive response soon,” she said.
After several months of protests over safety concerns, the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board just recently gave its nod for fuel loading at the plant.
