CCMB scientist wins lifetime award in biotech

Utpal Bhadra, Senior Scientist and Group Leader, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) has been selected for the lifetime achievement award in biotechnology by the Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy (ABAP). It is in recognition of his outstanding research contributions in the field of biotechnology and its related areas. His group has pioneered the Gene silencing and RNAi (ribonucleic acid interference) technology and was the first group to identify RNAi and gene silencing in animals.

His work published in Science journal ranked as Top Ten papers in ‘Science’ for three consecutive years. Utpal Bhadra has been selected as an excellent investigator by the French Academy of Sciences. The award which carried a gold medal, memento and certificate will be presented to him at the 7th Annual Convention and International Conference on Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Medicine and Human Health to be held in University of Delhi during October 18-20.
