The Telangana Government has asked the Union Government not to give green signal for the import of chicken legs. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao made this appeal to Union Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Kumar Balyan here on Wednesday.

Addressing a gathering at the inaugural of the eight Poultry Expo here, he said Indian could export chicken legs to other countries, if need be. The poultry industry would be adversely impacted if the government allowed imports, he said.

Stating that the State led the poultry industry in terms of production, he asked the investors from across the country to invest here. “The State is suitable for the industry. If you invest here, we will give all the support from the government,” the Chief Minister said.

The poultry expo showcased latest equipment and technologies from India and abroad. This year’s edition is the biggest so far, with industry representatives taking part in large numbers to attend the two-day event.

“We have increased the Budget allocation to the poultry industry from Rs 90 crore last year to Rs 220 crore. We are also giving power subsidy to the sector,” he said.

The State also agreed to consider removing value added tax on poultry equipment. “We have given the sector the status of agriculture. We appeal to the Centre to extend a similar gesture to help out the industry,” the Chief Minister said.
