Greek thinker Pythagoras believed that all relations can be reduced to numbers. His disciples believed the whole cosmos is a scale and a number. The latest entrant to this ancient brotherhood seems to be the BJP, which is eyeing the magic number of 272.

So confident is the party of achieving this number when the results are announced tomorrow, that it gearing up in a big way to celebrate the win. Its south Mumbai office here is being spruced up and fresh banners are being put up to herald the new government.

Spokesperson of the BJP’s city unit Atul Shah said orders have been placed for 4,000 kg of

ladoos , to be distributed as soon as the results start coming in. Large display screens have also been put up at important locations for people to view the coverage live.

Helium balloons will be released as a salute to Modi on each seat won by the NDA. A huge cake will be cut soon after the NDA crosses the 272 mark, said Shah.

Earlier in the week, the State Executive Committee had met to review the election strategy used in the Lok Sabha polls. A new course of action is also being formulated for the Assembly elections which would be held by October in the State.

BJP State President Devendra Fadnavis said the party, along with its alliance partners, is confident of a sweeping victory in Maharashtra. But there are few pockets in the State where Congress-NCP candidates seem to stand a good chance.

Alliance with NCP On talks of a possible alliance with Sharad Pawar-led NCP, Fadnavis said all such possible permutations were considered before the polls. However, the BJP leadership realised an alliance with the NCP would hurt the party immensely in the Lok Sabha polls, he added.

The NCP has a fixed voter base and, by aligning with the BJP, it would have lost a few votes from the minority communities. And the anti-incumbency factor against the NCP would have also affected the BJP, Fadnavis said.

Meanwhile, the State Government has also started beefing up security across Maharashtra.

Additional companies of reserve police have been called into service.

Sources in the State Government said Central and State intelligence agencies will also be monitoring all social and religious congregation centres across the State for any suspicious activities.
