ITC’s Wealth out of Waste programme has brought to the fore the significance of recycling through collaborative effort. It celebrated the second anniversary of National Recycling Day with over 10,000 school children.
The programme implemented by its Paperboards and Speciality Papers Division aims to create awareness among the general public about ‘Reduce-Reuse-Recycle’ to protect and restore the environment and inculcate the habit of source segregation.
Mr D. Jayakumar, Speaker of Tamil Nadu Assembly, inaugurating the programme said that this was in line with the vision of the State Government.
What started with just 10 tonne collection of recyclables through the WOW collection has now swelled to over 4,000 tonne a month.
Over 3 million citizens, five lakh school children, 350 companies, over 1,000 commercial establishments and around 200 industries are supporting WOW across South India says a ITC press release.
ITC has four of its businesses, including education and stationery products, agarbatti, safety matches and packaging, headquartered in the State.
It has also invested in setting up a manufacturing facility in packaging and printing in Tiruvottiyur in North Chennai, a paperboards factory in Coimbatore, a cigarette factory in Hosur and contract manufacturing units for ITC’s branded packaged foods business.
ITC’s businesses, value chains and distribution network support livelihoods of over 8 lakh people in the State, says the release.
