XLRI, NABARD to hold workshop on inclusive finance

XLRI Jamshedpur and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will hold the 3rd International Workshop on Inclusive Finance from October 31-November 2 at XLRI campus at Jamshedpur.

The organisers would also award innovators and social entrepreneurs, who have made a difference to the life at the bottom of the pyramid by enhancing their access to finance through a competition for Innovation4Impact.

HK Pradhan, Professor of Finance and Economics at XLRI and Convener of the Workshop, said that XLRI has invited innovators to send their proposals for evaluation and selection of awards by September 12.

The awards, instituted last year, were to felicitate and provide an opportunity to innovators to demonstrate their success stories to experts at the workshop, delegates from industry, researchers, faculty and students of B schools.

“This year we are likely to add up a few more award categories to the six existent,” he told Business Line .

A statement from Subrata Gupta, Chief General Manager, NABARD, said that the idea was to popularise successful cases in the arena of financial inclusion that are recognised as replicable models. We wish to disseminate innovative experiments to the wider audience comprising different stakeholders so that the models could be adopted in other locations.

The competition invites successful models involving initiatives in livelihood finance; innovations in bank-business correspondent for financial inclusion, banking products for poor; products innovations in microfinance, savings and insurance; sustainable innovations for the ultra poor; in financial literacy and consumer protection, including literacy initiatives through Financial Literacy Centres (FLC), community-based initiatives, and inclusive technological innovations, including mobile banking.
