Aadhaar not mandatory to get LPG subsidy in Telangana

It is not mandatory to have an Aadhaar number to get LPG subsidy in Telangana. The State Government, which has approved a new Modified Direct Benefit for LPG, has said that people can furnish their bank account numbers to get the subsidy of about Rs 508 on each cylinder they buy.

Those who don’t have an Aadhaar number will be assigned a 17-digit unique identification number to link their bank accounts with the LPG subscription.

The new scheme will come into force from November 15. The Government, however, has given a six-month grace period to giving people time to become Cash Transfer Compliant (CTC).

Those who are CTC compliant (who has linked their bank accounts with the gas dealers) will get their subsidies deposited in their bank accounts. Those who are yet to become CTC will be given a three-month period to get refills at subsidised rates. This grace period will end on February 14, 2015.

Beyond this, they will get another three months of ‘Parking Period’ during which they would get the refills but without subsidy. “If they become CTC compliant in this period, they will be refunded the additional money they paid,” the Commissioner of Civil Supplies said here in a statement on Thursday.

“Direct transfer of subsidy component will help the Government save crores of rupees as it helps check bogus connections,” it said.
