Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia today said if Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi leads the country there would be development of all sections of the society.
“I believe and have full faith and hope, that if Rahul Gandhi leads the country then it will benefit all sections of the country as he (Rahul), unlike others, always thinks about the nation and for the poor and development,” Scindia said at a press conference here.
Scindia said this while replying to a question on whether Gandhi should be projected as the prime ministerial candidate for the Congress in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Refuting BJP’s allegation that by appointing him as Madhya Pradesh’s election campaign committee chief, Congress has done injustice to the state party unit president Kantilal Bhuria, who is a tribal, Scindia retorted by asking why the BJP has not appointed former Union Minister Faggan Singh Kulaste as the party president in the state.
To prove his point, he listed the names of several tribal leaders who were given important posts in government and positions in the party.
Scindia said the BJP wanted to engineer differences between him and Bhuria as it always believed in “divisive politics, unlike Congress which always unites people”.
He described himself and Bhuria as “the two sides of the same coin.”
Assembly elections in MP are slated around year end.
He also rubbished allegations that Congress is a divided house and that his appointment just two months before the Assembly polls will divide the party.
Terming Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh as an “undisputed senior party leader”, Scindia said he was taking guidance from him for campaigning related issues.
Trashing claims of development being made by state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Congress leader alleged that the only thing that has flourished in the state is corruption.
“The Congress has decentralised the power in the state, but the only thing that the BJP has done was to decentralise corruption,” he said.
In Madhya Pradesh, different regions have immense potential but it needed to be developed further, like Malwa region which is rich in agriculture but has no processing units to give farmers their due, he said.
On the occasion, Scindia, the Union Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge), also highlighted various projects sanctioned by his ministry, including the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme for Madhya Pradesh.
