To meet increasing demand during current crop season and summer

Following a review meeting of the power sector, the Chief Minister has directed the officials to ensure purchase of about 450 MW power generated using RLNG and naphtha.

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has said that arrangements have been made for about 900 MW of additional power supply in the State.

This includes additional supply from Central pool, purchase of high cost fuel for power generation and arrangements from merchant power plants.

Following requests by the State for additional power supply, the Centre has agreed to provide supply of 100 MW from Jhajjhar and Damodar Valley Corporation and another 100 MW from the Central pool in the next few days.

Following a review meeting of the power sector, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure purchase of about 450 MW of power generated using re-gassified liquefied natural gas and naptha.

Power purchases

Independent power producers GVK, Lanco, GMR and Spectrum are being supplied high cost fuel that helps them generate power and supply at about Rs 12 an unit.

In addition, the State has made arrangements for purchase of power from Nava Bharat Ventures, Sarada Ferro Alloys, Steel Exchange and Gridco to meet the increase in demand during rabi crop season and during ensuing summer.

The Chief Minister is also evaluating a proposal for a 1,320 MW thermal power unit planned at Ramagundam in the State.

Fuel surcharge

In yet another important development, power distribution companies have sought Rs 1,068 crore towards fuel surcharge adjustment for third quarter ended December 2012.

This will be yet another big blow to power consumers in the State who are already reeling under power shortage and paying up FSA for previous quarters.
