Benelli sees India as an important market

Italian bike manufacturer Benelli sees India as one of the most important markets in the Asia Pacific region, according to its Director George Wang.

China is the largest market for it in the region, clocking average annual sales of nearly 20,000 units. The company recently made its entry into India, rolling out showrooms across the country.

At the inauguration of its showroom in Chennai, he told media persons that with aggressively priced bikes assembled in India it estimates the market will outdo China in the coming years.

Shirish Kulkarni, Chairman, DSK Motowheels Pvt Ltd, which is launching the bikes in India, said the first year target is 3,000 units with the sweet spot in demand for vehicles ranging in the 250CC to 600 CC category.

The total superbike market in India is estimated at around 9,000 units in the current fiscal, with an estimated growth of 2,000 units next year.

Benelli launched five models in Chennai on Friday; TNT 300 M priced at ₹2.88 lakh with a variant sporting Pirelli tyres priced at ₹ 2.97 lakh; TNT 600i at ₹5.24 lakh; TNT 600 GT at ₹5.72 lakh and a variant TNT 600 GTS with side bags priced at ₹ 6.09 lakh; TNT 899 at ₹9.65 lakh; and the TNT R at ₹12.02 lakh.
