BJP today said it will continue to confront the Government and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the cases of corruption till the time they resign.

“Our demand is that the PM and the government should resign. The CAG reports are not the only issue as there are so many complaints and cases of corruption.

“There are scams worth lakhs of crore of rupees but perpetrators are being protected. That is why we have decided that we will confront the government till the time it resigns and we will not stop,” senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters outside Parliament.

He said Government was giving “silly arguments” to protect itself in these scams and there was “no meaning” in following the procedure of referring the CAG reports to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Parliament.

“We have seen earlier also that when a matter was referred to the PAC, it was not allowed to function properly by the ruling party members and the Chairman’s report was also never allowed to be tabled in the House.

“There is no meaning in referring the case to the PAC, and JPC also has no meaning. We want this government to go immediately as it has no right to be in office even for a minute,” M Venkaiah Naidu said.

Asked about the Government’s charge that BJP-ruled states were also involved in the alleged coal scam, he said, “Not even one (BJP-ruled) state is involved in it. It is the Central Government which is responsible for it.”

Senior party leader Yashwant Sinha said BJP was insisting on Manmohan Singh’s resignation as the “irregularities” in coal block allocation, mentioned in the CAG report, occurred when the Coal Department was with the Prime Minister.

“There were irregularities in coal block allocations causing huge losses to the Government and this happened when the Prime minister was the Coal Minister....this has been said by the CAG and this is not a BJP report,” he said.
