Centre sets up panel to resolve power sector issues between AP, Telangana

The Centre has constituted a committee to resolve issues related to power sector between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh resulting from the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 relating to allocations, power purchase agreements and other issues.

The Government has empowered the committee to hold deliberations on various issues and come out with a report within a month.

Neeraj Mathur, the Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority, will head the six-member committee and include CEO of Power Systems Operation Corporation, S.K. Soonee, COO, Power Grid Corporation of India, Y.K.Sehgal, Energy Secretaries from both States or their nominees, and Director (Operations and Maintenance), Ministry of Power.

The committee has the power to co-opt any other member from the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission, which is responsible for both states, for deliberations, if necessary. The key issues for the committee include allocation of shares from Central power generating stations and renewable energy sources, matters related to inter-State transmission system and payment towards transmission charges and losses.

It has been entrusted with the task of formation of separate regulatory authorities for both States, and the key mater concerning the power purchase agreements apart from handling any other issue that the Union Ministry of Power may want to be considered.
