The patient growth rate in Maharashtra due to Covid-19 is slowing down and the time taken for doubling of cases is increasing. At present, this period has gone up to about 26 days. The cure rate in the State is 50.49 per cent. On Thursday, 1,672 patients had been discharged in the State, taking the total number to 60,838, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said in a media statement.
However, 3,752 new cases were also reported, and at present 53,901 patients active are undergoing treatment in the State, Tope said.
The first Covid-19 case in Maharashtra was detected on March 9, 2020. Since then, the patient growth rate (weekly average) in the State has been steadily declining in the last three months, and the doubling rate has been increasing. From this, it is clear that the pace of spread of Covid-19in the State is slowing down, the statement pointed out.
At present, there are 58 State and Central government and 43 private laboratories in Maharashtra, which are carrying out pathology tests for Covid-19. Of the 7.17 lakh samples sent until date, 1.20 lakh are positive (16.93 per cent). The State also has 5.81 lakh patients in home-quarantine. There are 92,141 beds available in 2,203 institutional quarantine facilities, and at present 26,740 people are in institutional quarantine, the statement said.
