CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury has urged party members to defeat forces engaging in communal politics.
Speaking at the inauguration of the party’s 22nd Karnataka State conference at Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday, Yechury said there is a need to protect and strengthen the unity and integrity of the country, its people and diversity. At the same time, there is a need to build struggles for an alternative policies that is pro-people and that can build a better India.
Referring to incidence of communal clashes and moral policing along coastal Karnataka, the CPI(M) leader said these were indications that the country would be run by private armies and not by the law as established by the Constitution and justice as delivered by the judiciary.
He urged party members to resolve to protect and strengthen the unity and integrity of the country.
The decision to organise the party’s meeting in coastal Karnataka signalled the CPI(M)’s courage and determination to not allow society to be bifurcated on the basis of religion, or any other identity, Yechury said.
He said inquiry commissions constituted to probe various communal riots in the country have pointed towards the RSS as being the cause of polarisation among the people leading to communal violence and deaths.
Referring to some programmes of the Modi government, including Start Up India and Make In India, Yechury said no country could develop or progress unless there is peace and stability.
