Terry Gou, founder and Chairman of Taiwan-based Foxconn Technology Group, is slated to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on August 6 for a second round of talks regarding setting up a manufacturing base in the State.
The meeting is an important part of the agenda for the Foxconn team, which is scheduled to be in Mumbai on Thursday, a senior official familiar with the matter said.
This follows a meeting of top officials of the company with the CM, last month.
“Foxconn is sending a delegation of officers to scout for locations in Maharashtra. We expect it to visit the State in a month’s time,” State industry minister Subhash Desai had then said.
The company had been invited to set up an iPhone manufacturing unit in the State, he had added. According to the official, Foxconn was scouting for 1,000 acres of land in Maharashtra and had been shown options in industrial estates in Butibori and Shendra.
In May this year, Fadnavis had paid a visit to Foxconn’s facility in Zhengzhou, in the Henan province of China, and also met Terry Gou.
The contract electronics manufacturing giant has just announced plans to invest over $2 billion to set up several plants in India over the next five years, making it one of the largest foreign investments under the ‘Make in India’ programme. It proposes to produce mobile devices, TVs, electronic products, batteries and key electronic components, among others.
