Having declared 527 villages in Saurashtra as partially drought-hit last week, the Gujarat government had on Tuesday declared another 623 villages of four districts as drought-affected.

The State Education Minister, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, stated that considering the situation of shortage of drinking water and fodder, the state government has declared 623 villages of four districts as drought-affected.

The Chief Minister, Anandiben Patel, had constituted a Cabinet sub-committee last month to look into the drought conditions in the state and suggest appropriate measures.

Chudasama also assured that wherever needed, the government will arrange water tankers to make drinking water available in the drought-hit areas.

The administration has made adequate arrangements to ensure availability of drinking water and fodder in these villages of four districts namely Porbandar (64), Jamnagar (190), Dev Bhoomi Dwarka (68) and Kutch (301 villages).

The state government has also sought details about the drought condition from the district collectors of other districts, including Banaskantha, Patan and Amreli. A decision on these districts will be taken at the next meeting of the committee.
