Heavy rains in Rajasthan; 12 killed

Twelve persons died and several others were evacuated from their homes due to heavy rains on Wednesday in Rajasthan. The incessant downpour brought normal life to a standstill. Ten people were killed in rain-related incidents in the State capital, Jaipur, and two in Dausa district.

The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, took stock of the situation by calling up Chief Minister Ashok Singh Gehlot, a State Government spokesperson said.

The Chief Minister brought to his knowledge that there was no flood-like situation in the State and about 10 places had received more than 200-mm of rainfall, he added.

According to the State Government spokesperson, Gehlot will review the rainfall and rescue work at a meeting.

In Gulabi Nagar, Jaipur, many people have been sent to safer areas following the heavy downpour. Till Wednesday morning, the city received 300 mm of rains, the Met Department said.
