“While the lives of security personnel are at risk on a daily basis, the people of the region are living under fear.”

The Congress on Wednesday accused the Narendra Modi government of ignoring the development of North East States. The party’s general secretary in-charge of the North East, V Narayanasamy, said ever since the BJP came to power, the Centre has been trying to destabilise the non-NDA governments in the north-eastern States.

Minister of State in the Home Ministry Kiran Rijiju is adopting a “divide-and-rule” method and using terrorist organisations to threaten Congress leaders in the area, Narayanasamy alleged.

“These blatant efforts at destabilisation are not only threatening to divert the democratic will of the people but have also created a security issue in the area after a long time. While the lives of security personnel are at risk on a daily basis, the people of the region are living under constant fear,” the former Minister said.

He said Modi has even denied appointment to the Chief Ministers from those States who wanted to meet him jointly on the issues of development. Modi and BJP president Amit Shah are indulging in disturbing duly elected Congress governments in the North-East, he said.

“The Home Ministry and the MoS Home is directly involved in creating law and order problem in the North East. MLAs of the Congress party are being threatened using terrorist outfits to switch over to the BJP, thereby destabilising the governments,” Narayanasamy alleged.

He told reporters here Naga peace talks have failed because of the Home Ministry’s failure to bring all the terrorist outfits to the negotiating table.

“Modi had given assurance to the people of NE that within 18 months they will resolve the Naga issues but NSCN(K) pulled out of the talks because of the attitude of the Home Ministry,” he said.
