Given the increase in accredited hospitals, Kerala is preparing itself on a five year mission to become India’s healthcare hub.

The objective is to create awareness and getting the stakeholders together to promote the State as the hub for medical tourism in the country by 2020, as the sector is expected to touch ₹4 billion by 2017, Harish Pillai, Convenor, CII Healthcare panel said quoting CII-McKinsey report.

“Chenni alone gets 500 patients per day from overseas and our target is to attract 300 patients per day from abroad to Kerala”, he said. People from West Asia and the UK always come to the State for modern medical treatment, thanks to good air connectivity, he added.

Pillai was speaking to reporters here on Thursday to announce the fifth edition of Kerala Health Tourism 2015 to be held here from October 30 and 31 at Le Meridien.

With 22 hospitals in Kerala both in public and private sector receiving recognition from National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare (NABH), he said speciality hospitals in the State are at the forefront of medical tourism thereby emerging as a cost effective destination for modern medicine.
