The Left Front on Thursday sought West Bengal Governor M. K. Narayanan’s intervention into alleged attacks on opposition candidates filing their nominations for the Panchayat polls next month.

According to Surya Kanta Mishra, CPI(M) politburo member and Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly, the party has submitted a district-wise details regarding attacks on their candidates by Trinamool Congress workers to the Governor and demanded his intervention.

The CPI(M) has also drawn the Governor’s attention to incidents of threatening candidates for not filing nominations, he added.

Pointing out the State Government’s failure to provide security to opposition candidates, Mishra said Left Front would go for agitation if the State does not take adequate measures.
