Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh on Monday alleged massive irregularities in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employee Guarantee Scheme in seven districts of Uttar Pradesh and demanded a CBI probe into it.

The Union Minister claimed that neither the previous Mayawati regime nor the present Akhilesh Yadav Government has recommended CBI probe into MNREGS irregularities in spite of his repeated appeals.

“There had been massive irregularities in implementation of the scheme in seven districts of the State and several letters have also been written to the State Government in this connection, but neither the previous nor the present government has taken any step in the direction of CBI probe,” Ramesh told reporters here.

The CAG has prepared the report into the implementation of MNREGS in the seven districts, he said.

“Enough funds have been given to the State for implementing MNREGS and the right use of the funds of the Bundelkhand package is still to be seen,” the minister said.

Earlier, while inaugurating the “Aajivika Mahotsav”, the Minister claimed that despite enough funds being arranged for the Aajivika scheme, official apathy has not let the scheme proceed in UP and West Bengal.
