Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) will create infrastructure for regularisation of unauthorised irrigation pump sets (IP).

S. Sumanth, Managing Director of Mescom, said this while participating in a ‘Meet the Press’ programme organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Union here on Tuesday.

Stating that 21,693 unauthorised IP sets have been registered for regularisation, Sumanth said regularisation of these installations is in progress. Creation of infrastructure for power supply to these IP set installations will be the main work for the company in the coming months. An amount of Rs 75 crore will be invested for infrastructure creation in the next two years, he said. Mescom has regularised 8,137 IP sets till December.

Asked if Mescom is geared to meet the demands arising out of the growth in the real estate sector in Mangalore city, he said the company has created infrastructure to meet the demand in the coming years.

To feed electricity to Mangalore city, Mescom has seven sub-stations of capacity 33/11 KV. These sub-stations are situated at Kadri, Kudroli, Nandigudda, Attavara, Mannagudda, Kankanady and Nehru Maidan areas of the city.

To connect these seven sub-stations, KPTCL (Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd) has set up a 220 KV sub-station at Kavoor area and another 110 KV sub-station at Kulshekar area in the city.

Besides, work is in progress for the establishment of 110 KV sub-stations at Bejai and Jeppu areas in the city by KPTCL. With infrastructure in place, there should not be any problem with power supply to meet the future demands, he said.

To a query on the distribution loss of Mescom, he said it was around 12.09 per cent, among the lowest for Escoms (electricity supply companies) in the State. The distribution loss in Mangalore is 7 per cent. It is below 7 per cent in 12 towns under Mescom’s jurisdiction, he said.

Mescom has jurisdiction over the revenue districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shimoga and Chikmagalur.
