NCP legislators want party to quit govt; lend outside support

Shortly after Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar today resigned following allegations of irregularities in clearing irrigation projects, his party legislators met here and demanded that it quit the state government and extend outside support.

“NCP members of the Legislative Assembly and Council met here and have demanded that the party quit the government,” NCP MLC Vinayak Mete told PTI.

The NCP legislators want the party to extend outside support to the government, he said.

“The legislators felt that Congress should be allowed to govern,” he said.

There are 61 NCP MLAs in the 288-member House which has 82 Congress legislators. Opposition Shiv Sena has 45 MLAs and BJP 47.
