Turning the tables on the BJP, the Congress said had the party been so confident, some of its Karnataka MLAs would not have taken refuge at a hotel in Gurugram in the National Capital Region.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said the Congress-Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) government in Karnataka is “stable and strong” and will continue to be so.
‘BJP won’t succeed’
Denying the reports that there are fissures in the alliance, he said all 118 MLAs of the alliance “are intact and no one is running away.”
“There is no threat to our government in the State,” he said and alleged the BJP of indulging in rumour-mongering.
“The legislators will convene on Friday, January 18, for the meeting of the Congress Legislature Party, and so will the JD(S) MLAs, and will show that they stand united,” Kharge said.
“The BJP is trying to spread falsehood and canards that the Congress MLAs were moving away and were joining the BJP, but they will never be successful in doing so,” he added.
Role of central agencies
He said the BJP is trying to scare MLAs using federal investigating agencies and the Income Tax department.

“The BJP is in the habit of of destabilising government and poaching MLAs. They have done so in Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh earlier and are now seeking to attempt so in Karnataka too. The BJP believes in horse trading and luring MLAs of other parties and then forming governments,” he said.
