More than 100 organisations, representing farmers, workers, students, youth and artistes will come together for a convention on September 18 to chart a programme for agitation against the Narendra Modi government and the Sangh Parivar.

The organisers of ‘Jan Ekta Jan Adhikar Andolan’ told reporters here on Wednesday that all sections of the people were suffering due to the “pro-corporate, authoritarian policies” of the BJP.

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and All India Kisan Sabha General Secretary Hannan Mollah said an the people were the victims of an all-out attack in the last three years. He said there is panic among minorities and the effort of the organisations is to build a “massive public opinion” against the Centre. He said the convention will give a direction to these organisations on a future course of action.

“This government gets exposed due to its own wrong policies. The demonetisation had disastrous impact on the life of common people. The GDP which was 7.9 per cent in 2016 April-June quarter has declined to 5.7 per cent in 2017 resulting in loss of ₹3.3-lakh crore to the people. Skyrocketing prices of petrol and diesel have led to price rise of essential commodities, thus further appropriating the hard-earned surplus of the labouring classes. The imposition of GST has wrecked the petty production and resulted in further stagnation in the economy,” the organisers said in a statement.

Mollah said workers and farmers were at the receiving end and unrest is growing among them as expressed in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan recently.

The organisers also said the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh had proved that those who spoke for secular ethos of the country could also be killed by right-wing fundamentalists.
