Palakkad railway division earns Rs 343 cr in April-August

The overall earnings of Palakkad division of Southern Railways stood at Rs 343 crore during April-August 2012-13.

With this, the division registered a growth of 51 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, said a press release by the division.

Piyush Agarwal, Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager and Chairman of Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC), said this at the 147th meeting of the committee in Palakkad on Monday.

He said that the division had speeded up 44 trains saving 700 minutes in overall running time during July 2011. In July 2012, the division had speeded up 53 trains saving about 350 minutes.

The division had generated additional carrying capacity of 1,344 passengers per day by augmenting the coaches.

Agarwal said that DRUCC had been formed to provide larger representation for the railway users in the planning process of providing amenities for its users and identifying areas for improving the efficiency of such services.

Of the 25 members of DRUCC, 14 members attended the meeting. The members demanded amenities and other facilities to their stations.

C. Padmadas, Divisional Commercial Manager, briefed about the division and its activities. Sudeesh, Senior Divisional Operation Manager, proposed a vote of thanks. Mohan A. Menon, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, and other senior officers of the division participated in the meeting.
