Mangalore International Airport has made arrangements to give polio vaccination to passengers who travel to or from Mangalore Airport to seven endemic countries in the world.

A press statement by the Director of Mangalore International Airport, JT Radhakrishna, said here arrangements have been made to immunise passengers who travel to countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Syria, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Kenya.

India, which is a polio-free country, needs to maintain that status. Hence to check the transmission of polio virus from the above-mentioned countries into India, passengers who travel to and from these seven countries have to be immunised, he said.

Yenepoya Hospital, which manages the medical counter at the airport, is handling the polio vaccination. This facility has been arranged in cooperation with the Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department, he said.
