Political murders in Kerala have acquired a degree and scale that puts into shade the most reprehensible terrorist act, according to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

The Union Minister made this observation after paying a visit to the house of an RSS karyavah killed in Thiruvananthapuram in the latest incidence of violence.

Political murders have been on the rise every time the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government came to power in the state, he told newspersons here.

Jaitley demanded that the government act decidedly against perpetrators of violence. The Central leadership of the BJP will extend all possible assistance to the state unit, which has lost a number of workers in the past few months, he added.

The Union Minister went on to make serious charges against the state government, saying the CPI(M) policy is to eliminate those who did not agree with its ideology.

What Kerala needs is lasting peace, Jaitley said. The government should summon the political will needed to ensure law and order and peaceful coexistence.

Meanwhile, Jaitley’s visit signalled the BJP’s all-out effort to take a campaign blitz against the ruling LDF government in Kerala right into the rival camp.

Much political significance was attached to the visit, coming as it did in the context of the RSS leadership’s call to bring the state under President’s rule, citing the poor law and order situation.
